Forensic Psychological/Neuropsychological Evaluations: Juvenile and adult criminal cases to include determination of competency to stand trial, mental retardation, diminished capacity, insanity, mitigation, ability to form specific intent, amenability to treatment, risk assessment for dangerousness, psychological diagnostic evaluations with treatment recommendations, malingering and determination of competency of witnesses. Evaluations will include biographical profile of the individual, a battery of psychological and neuropsychological tests to attempt to demonstrate strengths and weaknesses in functioning and the forces that have shaped the individual's life.
Expert Witness Testimony: Dr. Shwartz has been qualified as an expert witness in forensic and neuropsychology in Federal Court, State District Court and Metropolitan/Magistrate Courts throughout New Mexico, testifying as an expert in capital crime, felony and misdemeanor cases. Additionally, each licensed professional has been qualified as an expert witness in forensic psychology in State District Court and Metropolitan/Magistrate Courts throughout New Mexico with special expertise in areas such as neuropsychology, trauma and abuse, learning disabilities, jury selection and safe house interviews.
Personal Injury/Medical Issues for Civil Suits: Neuropsychological evaluations to determine neurological deficits related to traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disorders including memory deficits, dementia, and other psychopathological issues.
Juvenile Diagnostic Evaluations: Child and adolescent neuropsychological, educational and forensic evaluations to determine competency to stand trial, amenability to treatment and competency of a child victim to be a witness. Evaluations can assist in the diagnosis of learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, emotional disturbances, history of trauma/abuse, mental retardation and autistic spectrum disorders in accordance with state and federal special education guidelines.
Consultation and Records Review: Review and organization of records including medical, psychiatric, mental health, legal, educational and safe house interviews.
Psychotherapy: Children, adolescents, couples, and adults including addiction and substance abuse, domestic violence, medical/mental health issues, relationship issues, family therapy, anger management, and issues of grief/loss.

Maxann Shwartz, Ph.D., LLC, Founder, Licensed Clinical Psychologist in New Mexico and California. Specialties include adult and juvenile forensic psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, personal injury, expert witness testimony in criminal law. Dr. Shwartz received clinical training in medical psychology, neurological trauma and defects, traumatic brain injury, chronic mental illness and childhood disorders (attention disorders, autism, learning disabilities). |

Kernen, Ph.D., LLC, Licensed Clinical Psychologist in New Mexico, with specialties in adult neuropsychology and forensic psychology: Dr. Kernen earned her doctorate from the University of New Mexico, completing her internship and postdoctoral training at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Department of Psychiatry. Her background includes working with neurology memory clinic, dementia diagnosis, neurodegenerative and neurological disorders, brain injury, severe psychopathology assessment, psychotherapy, and forensic evaluation, as well as ongoing post-licensure continuing education in neuropsychology and forensic assessment. | |
| Renate Wewerka, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist in New Mexico, received her Ph.D. from the University of Vienna, Austria in 1977 and is also a licensed psychologist in Maryland. Since coming to the United States, Dr. Wewerka has worked at Johns Hopkins University, various institutions in Maryland and New Mexico, including The Behavioral Health Institute at Las Vegas and the Social Security Administration. She has specialized in forensic psychology since the 1990s. | |
| Barry Fields, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist in New Mexico, received his training working in forensic psychology and general hospitals. Areas of specialization include adult and adolescent psycho diagnostic assessment, forensic evaluations, substance abuse diagnosis and treatment, and behavioral medicine.
